Details

Containing a range of forest types, the Park is mostly known for its kiln, built during the Second World War to make charcoal for gas producer units fitted to cars. Patented and developed by Professor E E Kurth, the ‘producer gas’ was a substitute for petrol, heavily rationed at the time.

Kurth Kiln Circuit starts off at the camping ground, brings us to the kiln (almost immediately), past waterfalls, a rock climbing location and a reservoir. There is a lot of road walking in this trek, and its considered Moderate mainly because of the distance. The good thing about this track however, is that it can be simplified as required.

We do need to cross over a stream on a log (someone fell in last time), but you’ll only get your feet wet if you make a mistake..

If required, we can modify the route to make it longer or shorter..

We might also throw in a rock climb of Egg Rock (quick, easy, and optional)..

PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
I can pick up anyone as required at Seaford Train Station at (Frankston line)

PLAN:
We will meet on the way at Maccas Stud Park, then carpool up to Kirth Kiln (Campground): Kurth Kiln, Soldiers Road, Gembrook VIC, Australia

EQUIPMENT
No technical equipment is required.

  • Hiking shoes. Warm socks
  • Layered clothing.
  • Trekking poles (if you’re into that kind of thing)
  • Food
  • Water.
  • Toilet paper..
  • I’ll bring a first aid kit, but it doesn’t hurt to bring extra’s.
  • If you have a YellowBrick or a SPOT, bring it.
  • Don’t overpack your bag, and don’t wear tight pants (unless they’re activewear). Your knees will hurt and you’ll get tired if they’re tight and don’t flex well..

MAP:

RISK MANAGEMENT:
I’ll be bringing a Satellite Messenger with GPS tracking capabilities. Live GPS tracking is available from: https://adventure-buddies.net/tracking/

KEEP IN MIND, THIS IS NOT A PROFESSIONAL GUIDED TREK. EVERYONE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY, AND FOR THE SAFETY OF THEIR FRIENDS THEY BRING. THAT ALSO MEANS WE MAY SOMETIMES GET LOST
